Voter Mobilization Projects
Voter registration, education and turn out are essential activities to ensure our democratic institutions
.
AKPA members regularly help staff event booths to provide voter registration cards and information.  College campuses in the area are a great source of young yet-to-be-registered voters too.  The Spokane County Democratic Party sponsors many of these registration efforts (see the Links page).  National level organizations promoting voter mobilization are as follows:

America Coming Together (ACT) www.act4victory.org
America Vote www.americavotes.org
League of Women Voters www.lwv.org
Voices for Working Families www.voicesforworkingfamilies.org
Women’s Voices, Women’s Vote www.wvwv.org

The National Council of Women’s Organizations
NCWO is a nonpartisan, nonprofit umbrella organization of over 200 groups that collectively represent more than ten million women across the United States.  NCWO members collaborate through substantive policy work and grass roots activism to address issues of concern to women, including workplace and economic equity, education and job training, affirmative action, Social security, child care, reproductive freedom, health, and global progress for women’s equality.

Women’s Leadership
Right here in Spokane’s own backyard is The Berkana Institute, an organization committed to grassroots change around the world, spearheaded by women.  It connects and supports pioneering, life-affirming leaders around the world who strengthen their communities by working with the wisdom and wealth already present in its people, traditions and environment.  Margaret Wheatley, author of Leadership and the New Science, writes, teaches and speaks about radically new practices and ideas for organizing in chaotic times. Wheatley and Deborah Frieze (Co-President of Berkana) are often the feature speakers at Institute sponsored events.
